This blog includes the photo and video evidences of the police terror that has happened in Turkey on dates between 31.05.2013 and 09.06.2013 (so far).
In the context of Taksim Square restoration project, the prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the replacement of Taksim Gezi Park by a shopping mall. The bulldozers started invading the area at late hours of night in May 27, 2013. Consequently, civilians occupied the area to stop the destruction. Due to the government’s increasing pressure and the severe violent actions taken by the police, the occupation quickly turned into a giant protest with the attendance of thousands of people. This archive of photos collected from Twitter shares is dedicated as a memorial to the Taksim Gezi Park protest meeting.
As of now, June 09, the protests continue day and night. Police stopped violence in Istanbul’s Gezi Park; however Istanbul’s Gazi District (not Gezi), Ankara’s Kizilay, Adana and Dersim are encountering violence. Problem is in rural areas, the people are not as much informed about “civil-resistance” as in bigger cities; so protesters might get violent also. Media is completely auto-censored, mobile network is jammed, subways to Taksim are shut down and the surveillance cameras are turned off.
